20 m Shuttle Run Calculator

Convert your final Course Navette / beep-test stage into final speed and an estimated VO₂ max.

Course Navette / Beep Test

Enter the last stage you completed and your age.

Final speed—km/h
Pace—min/km

For athletes older than 18, this implementation keeps E = 18 in the estimation equation used.

What does the Course Navette calculate?

The Course Navette, or 20 m shuttle run, is a progressive field test. Speed increases in stages while the athlete runs 20 m shuttles in time with audio signals.

Equation used

VO₂ max = 31.025 + 3.238·V − 3.248·E + 0.1536·V·E

V is the final protocol speed and E is the age used in the equation. As with any field estimate, the result is not equivalent to direct measurement with respiratory gas analysis.

What is it useful for?

It is useful for assessing aerobic fitness in groups and team sports because it requires little equipment and can be repeated in a standardised way.

Protocol source

Léger et al. (1988), The multistage 20 metre shuttle run test for aerobic fitness. The protocol increases by 0.5 km/h each minute from 8.5 km/h and uses the speed of the completed stage in the equation.
